The Code
The Reconstructivist Code
Reconstructivism is rebuilding everything from the bottom up, including how we think about politics and community safety.
A lot of what has been considered political contribution previously is just a distraction within the movement. We’re connecting directly with the community to solve problems directly and gain support beyond hoping manipulative propaganda can secure a vote for a half-assed, top-down change.
Here’s our basic code that we ask you adhere to if you wish to represent the movement:
~ Support Each Other . The strong help the weak and the weak help the strong.
~ Own your shit. Your perspective, your actions (or lack thereof), and your risks. No one is expecting perfection, just accountability and coming forward with problems, not hiding them away.
~ None of us have authority over the truth. Democracy is about hearing people out, then organizing and discussing perspectives. The expectation of a centrally authoritative truth is detrimental to society’s stability and ability to innovate.
~ Consensus Over Agreement
~ Public interactions should be focused around sourcing and solving problems, not just being “right”. Make your points and be as expressive as you are, but don’t make it too personal. You are trying to change minds to solve problems, not assert superiority.
~ Stay Secure. Information about certain individuals and organizations may be protected to ensure as safe of operation as possible. Always be mindful of when you’re accessing or discussing privileged information and do not share it out of the appropriate networks.
~ Maintain offline roots. The internet is getting sketchier by the day. Make sure you connect locally and have plans if things ever go dark.
~ No harm for harm’s sake. We have no enemies that we don’t want to eventually be at least neutral cohabitants of this rock with us.
The Code vs The Law
Rules are imposed by rulers. The consequence of breaking them are imposed from the top down by rulers.
Codes serve a similar function but are built from the bottom up. Whereas nearly all of us are born into societies with rules imposed on us that there’s no meaningful consent to, a code emerges between any group of people who interact for long enough.
A natural agreement among the people who actually interact everyday that is based on natural respect and symbiosis. People don’t comply out of fear of some punishment process, but because they don’t want to disappoint their community.
Codes can be simple or they can be complex. The important things are that people within a community are participating with informed consent, and that we can reach some consensus among even the most diverse communities to still maintain symbiotic relationships.
Other than that, people are free to dictate themselves as the wish, at first individually, and then collectively within any group they become a part of.
This is the way of a free society. It’s not about an absence of any sort of regulatory stability, it’s about it being composed of consent, not coercion.
The Law exists only for the most essential of security and infrastructure provisions.
Telling people what to do isn’t a solution. Forcing people to re-appropriate their funds isn’t a solution.
Breaking the Code can result in nothing worse than loss of the benefit of being part of any community whose code you have violated.
The Human Code
Across all cultures, humanity has a sort of natural code that emerges as a baseline for all interactions. We can discuss that later.
